Gators Soar Past Ravens; Improve to 11-0 in CSAC Play

Rosemont, Pa.- The Notre Dame (MD) women's basketball team picked up their ninth consecutive victory, flying past Rosemont College by a score of 84-35 on Wednesday, Jan. 25. The Gators are now 11-0 in CSAC play this season
 
Kori People once again led all scorers finishing with 22 points. Alexis Durham recorded a double-double finishing with 16 points and 10 assists. Amya Durham posted a career-high 16 points in 23 minutes of action. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gators (15-3 overall, 11-0 CSAC) traded baskets with the Ravens (2-13 overall, 2-9 CSAC) early in the first quarter with back-to-back jumpers from People giving them a 6-4 lead. Leading by three midways through the opening quarter, the Gators offense seemed to find a spark when Alexis Durham raced down the court for a layup in transition. NDMU closed the quarter on an 11-0 run, holding a 20-6 advantage going to the second quarter. 
 
NDMU continued pulling away in the second quarter, stretching their lead on a Chantel Curry 3-pointer. An 8-0 capped off by an Alexis Jones layup pushed the lead to 21-points with 2:25 remaining in the half. Amya Durham converted a layup just before the halftime buzzer, sending the Gators into the break ahead 39-16. 
 
People started the third quarter off with a bang, drilling a 3-pointer from the wing. Rosemont made a push to get back into the game, going on a 10-2 run to close back within 18 points early in the quarter. Bethani Newbold flipped momentum back to the Gators, slashing to the basket for a layup. The Gators closed the quarter on a 16-0 run, holding a 64-27 lead heading into the final quarter. In full control of the game, NDMU dominated the final quarter en route to an 84-35 victory. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Gators had an outstanding shooting night, going 33-64 from the field
  • Alexis Durham had her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 16 points and 10 assists
  • Amya Durham had a career high 16 points, hitting 6-7 shots from the floor
  • NDMU controlled the glass, holding 37-30 edge in rebounds
  • People continued to be efficient from the field, finishing with 22 points on 9-16 shooting 
  • The Gators defense continued to create high-quality scoring chances, forcing 25 turnovers that resulted in 31 points
  • Daija Fitchett led the Gators in rebounds, finishing with seven boards
  • The Ravens were led by Aalyssa Rogers who had 10 points
 
WHO'S NEXT
The Gators will return home to face Saint Elizabeth University on Saturday, Jan. 28. Earlier this season, the Gators defeated the Eagles by a score of 65-47. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
