BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame of Maryland men's soccer team could not hold off Cairn University, falling by a score of 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The Gators (5-6-1 Overall, 3-3 United East) and the Highlanders (5-5-4 Overall, 3-0-2 United East) battled to draw in the first half, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but neither breaking through.
NDMU struck first, scoring in the 57th minute. Reuben Wahl rocketed a shot that was blocked and went out of bounce, earning NDMU a corner kick. Chris Labra took the corner, sending the ball into the box toward the near post. Wahl deflected the ball to the feet of Conor Somers who blasted the ball into the back of the net.
The Gators tried to hold onto the lead, fending off multiple attacks by the Highlanders throughout the next 20 minutes of action. Unfortunately, NDMU had a player sent off and was forced to play without only 10 players. Cairn capitalized on the advantage, scoring twice in the 85th minute to rally back and defeat the Gators.
WHO'S NEXT
The Gators will hit the road when they travel to face St. Elizabeth University on Saturday, Oct. 21. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
