Men's Soccer Drops United East First Round Matchup

Morristown, NJ- The Notre Dame of Maryland men's soccer team dropped an exciting United East Championship Tournament First Round matchup to #3 seed Saint Elizabeth University by a score of 4-2 on Saturday, Oct. 28.

The first ten minutes of the game were incredibly fast paced with Saint Elizabeth racing out to a 2-0 lead scoring in the fifth and seventh minutes. NDMU had an immediate answer when in the eighth minute, off a corner kick Matthew Marty found an open Myles Tanksley for a goal that cut the deficit down to one. The Gators struck again in the tenth minute. Hector Alvarez started a counterattack, finding Tassilo Lehmkuhl in transition. Lehmkuhl blasted a shot into the back of the net to level the match at two. After the high scoring start, both defenses settled into the game, with the score remaining 2-2 at the half.

Saint Elizabeth struck first in the second half, scoring in the 53rd minute to retake the lead. Ruben Wahl and Johannes Karlsen each fired shots trying to tie the game, but they could not find an answer. The Eagles put the game away in the 73rd minute, scoring their fourth goal of the game. The Gators could not score another goal, eventually falling by a score of 4-2.
