Owings Mills, MD- The Notre Dame of Maryland women's basketball team could not complete a second half rally, falling to Stevenson University by a score of 68-62 on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
The Gators got off to a fast start, scoring the first six points of the game behind baskets from Bethany Newbold and Hillary Howard. Stevenson answered back, pulling ahead by going 15-1 run. Ny'Asia Futrell temporarily slowed the run, knocking down a jump shot, but the Mustangs scored the final four points of the quarter, holding a 19-9 advantage going into the second quarter.
Amya Durham and Newbold connected on jump shots early in the second quarter, helping NDMU keep pace with Stevenson. The Mustangs used a 13-0 run to take a 21-point lead with 3:44 remaining in the second quarter. NDMU tried to recapture some of the momentum before the half, getting to the foul line several times, including four key free throws from Chantel Curry. The Gators closed the half on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit down to 13 at the break.
NDMU chipped away at the deficit throughout the third quarter, trading baskets throughout the quarter. Amani Watts, Howard and Curry each converted layups to keep the Gators within striking distance. Watts closed out the third quarter by converting a three-point play, pulling NDMU within 12 points heading into the fourth quarter.
The Gators started the fourth quarter off quickly, running off seven-straight points, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Futrell to climb back withing four points of the Mustangs. Stevenson would respond rebuilding leads throughout the quarter, but NDMU would not go away. Another 3-pointer by Futrell pulled NDMU within three points with 2:57 remaining in the game. Curry brought the Gators with two points, converting a pair of free throws with just over a minute left in the game. NDMU could not get any closer, and eventually fell 68-62.

Curry scored a team high 16 points, converting 8-10 free throws.

Watts earned her third double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Howard shot over 50% from the field, racking 14 points to go along with six rebounds.

The Mustangs won the battle on the glass, holding a 43-36 edge in rebounds.
