Mechanicsburg, Pa.- The Notre Dame of Maryland men's basketball team fell in a nonconference matchup with Messiah University, falling by a score of 86-57 on Thursday, Nov. 30.
The Gators got off to a slow start, falling behind 8-2 in the opening five minutes. Jermaine Koger Jr. got the Gators offense going slashing to the basket for a layup. Jalen Yates pulled NDMU back within four, knocking down his first 3-pointer of the game. Marquis James then hit a pull up jumper, bringing the Gators back within a single possession. After a couple of baskets by the Falcons, Clarence Obiajulu scored four-straight points to keep the team within striking distance. Messiah scored eight-straight points grabbing an 11-point lead. The teams traded baskets down the stretch with Azaan Shiekh hitting a 3-pointer to close the half, but NDMU trailed 35-26 at the break.
Jackson Pugh started the second half strong slashing to the basket for a layup on the Gators first possession. Yates drilled another 3-pointer keeping NDMU within striking distance. Despite a flurry of 3-pointers by Yates, the Falcons continued to pull away from the Gators. Messiah raced away in final minutes of the half, securing the victory.

Yates erupted from beyond the arc, going 8-12 from 3-point range, finishing with 24 points.

Sheikh scored seven points, hitting once from beyond the arc. He also dished a team high four assists.

Jahbreco Dacosta led Gators in rebounds, grabbing 10 loose balls.

Messiah was led in scoring by Evan Parker, who finished with 13 points.

The Gators will begin United East play when they travel to face St. Elizabeth University on Saturday, December 2. The tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
