ALLENTOWN. – The Notre Dame of Maryland women's volleyball team's run in the United East Championship Tournament sadly came to an end as the Gator fell to top-seed Cedar Crest College by a score of 3-1. The Gators battled in each set eventually falling by set scores of 17-25, 25-20, 18-25 and 22-25.
The Gators offensive attack was led by Ciarra Bockstie, who blasted a team high of 10 kills. Miasia Ferrer added seven kills while four different hitters each picked up four kills. NDMU had an excellent serving night, racking up nine total service aces.
NDMU's defense allowed the Gators to stay in the game, with the team totaling 87 digs in the match. Paulina Hernandez, Natalie Newton and Jade Stewart each recorded 19 digs in the match. Candace Forgach-Aguilar and Emma Mueller each reached double figures, combining to post 23 digs.
Throughout the match the Gators fed off the energy of the raucous crowd that made the trip to Allentown. That was on full display during the second set. NDMU trailed 16-12 midway through the set when Bockstie smashed down a kill, sparking a 5-1 run that tied the set at 17. Natalie Newton and Erin Shaw pulled the Gators ahead slamming down three kills, putting the Gators in position to capture the set. NDMU won the final four points of the set with a thunderous block by Bockstie and Stewart evening the match at one set apiece.
