BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame (MD) women's lacrosse team picked up their second-straight CSAC victory, defeating Cedar Crest College by a score of 16-8 on Saturday, Apr. 22.
The Gators were led by
Jade Stewart who scored seven goals and dished two assists.
Sarah Generoso found the back of the cage four times.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gators (3-9 Overall; 2-2 CSAC) could not have asked for a better start to the game with Generoso winning the opening draw control and then scoring the first goal of the game. The Gators then won the ensuing draw control with Stewart immediately scoring to put NDMU ahead 2-0. Under a minute later, Stewart struck again stretching the lead to three. The Falcons (3-7 Overall; 0-3 CSAC) battled back, scoring two straight goals to pull back within one. Stewart halted the run winning a draw and firing a shot into the back of the cage. Cedar Crest scored the final goal of the quarter, but they trailed by one heading to the second quarter.
Generoso opened the scoring in the second quarter, capitalizing on a free position opportunity to make the score 5-3. Later in the quarter after the teams traded goals,
Averee Radonovich perfectly placed a shot from distance into the back of the net. Generoso added one more to close out the half, giving the Gators an 8-4 lead at the break.
Cedar Crest made a major push to start the third quarter, scoring three of the first four goals to close back within two. After an NDMU timeout, Radonovich scored again this time rocketing a shot in the net off a great pass by Stewart.
Emma Alascia kept the momentum going, slashing throught the defense for a goal. Generoso and Stewart each struck one more time, pushing the lead to six heading to the fourth quarter. The Gators controlled most of the play during the final frame, scoring the first three goals of the quarter, on their way to earning the 16-8 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Stewart once again powered NDMU's offense, scoring seven goals to bring her season total to 44 goals scored.
- Generoso added four more goals, while handing out an assist.
- NDMU dominated draws, holding a 20-8 edge over the Falcons.
- Alascia finished the game with three goals and an assist.
- Radonovich scored twice while collecting a team-high six ground balls.
- Alissandra Mason earned her third win of the season, making six saves.
- Cedar Crest was led by Maddie Graham, who scored four goals.
