Gators Shine in Home Opener

BALTIMORE– Notre Dame of Maryland's women's volleyball team shined in its home opener, defeating Hood College in straight sets on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Gators (3-3 Overall) secured the sweep thanks to set scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-22.

Paulina Hernandez closed out a dominant first set, firing a service ace to put the Gators ahead 1-0.

Hood College (3-7 Overall) grabbed the advantage in the second set, racing out to an early three point lead. The Gators used some outstanding defensive play to halt the Blazers momentum. NDMU's defense was anchored by Hernandez, who posted 24 digs in the match. The Gators used a late 4-1 run to take control and ultimately win the set.

The Gators closed out their home opener in the third set. After exchanging points early on, Hernandez smoked two straight service aces to help NDMU capture the lead.
