Gators Drop High-Scoring Battle With Eagles

Morristown, NJ - The Notre Dame of Maryland Men's Soccer team fell in a high scoring affair to Saint Elizabeth University in a road match-up by a score of 6-4 on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Saint Elizabeth struck early in the first half, netting a goal in the 5th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Gators answered right back, earning a penalty kick in the 7th minute, and Elija Hanrieder convert his second PK goal of the season. NDMU took their first lead of the game in the 19th minute. Off a long throw in, Tassilo Lehmkuhl found an open Peer Ewerbeck for a goal. The Gators had captured the momentum and looked to push the advantage in the 22nd minute. This time Lehmkuhl blasted a shot into the upper right-hand corner of the net, making the score 3-1. The Eagles regain their composure and the momentum, scoring three times in a nine-minute span to rally back and take a 4-3 lead at the half.

NDMU started the second half with a bang, when nine seconds into the half, Lehmkuhl swiped the ball from an Eagles' defender and perfectly placed a shot under the crossbar to level the score at four. Saint Elizabeth immediately responded, scoring in the 49th minute on a PK to retake the lead. The Gators tried to find a fifth goal throughout the second half, but they could not level the score as the Eagles scored in the 83rd minute to put the game away.
