Notre Dame of Maryland University Dominates University of Valley Forge

Baltimore, MD- The Notre Dame of Maryland University Women's Basketball team secured an impressive 70-47 win over University of Valley Forge, showcasing their defensive determination and balanced scoring attack. 

The Gators set the tone early, outscoring Valley Forge 19-11 in the first quarter behind efficient shooting (56.3%) and aggressive defense. They never looked back, maintaining their lead throughout the game and limiting their opponents' opportunities. 

NDMU's starting lineup was exceptional, with three players scoring in double digits: 

  • Bethani Newbold: Newbold led the charge with 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting. She added 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals in a stellar all-around performance during her 36 minutes of play. 

  • Amya Durham: Durham contributed 16 points, including 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Her 6 rebounds and 4 assists underscored her importance on both ends of the court. 

  • Allison Holman: Holman was a force in the post, scoring 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting while grabbing 5 rebounds. 

The Gators' defense was relentless, forcing 10 turnovers and collecting 10 steals. They stifled Valley Forge's offense, holding them to just 35.1% shooting from the field and 16.7% from beyond the arc. The team also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Valley Forge 31-25. Yasmeen Yussuf and Durham led the effort with 6 rebounds each, helping the Gators control the pace of the game. 

While NDMU struggled from beyond the arc (0-for-9), their focus on high-percentage shots paid off. The Gators scored 46 of their 70 points in the paint, exploiting gaps in Valley Forge's defense. Their free-throw shooting was another bright spot, hitting 75% (12-of-16) from the line. 

Notable Players:  

  • Elena Rodriguez: Chipped in 9 points, including key mid-range jumpers to keep the momentum in NDMU's favor. 

  • Madison Simmons: Added 6 points and 5 rebounds, showcasing her presence in the paint. 

  • Yasmeen Yussuf: Provided a spark off the bench with 4 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists in 26 minutes.
