BALTIMORE– The Notre Dame of Maryland University women's basketball team's season came to an end as they fell in the United East Skye Division Championship game to Saint Elizabeth University by a score of 68-55 on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
The Gators got off to a slow start, allowing Saint Elizabeth to race out to an early 9-0 lead. Bethani Newbold and Hillary Howard got NDMU on the board, scoring midway through the quarter. The Eagles closed the opening quarter on an 8-0 run, leading 17-6 heading to the second quarter. Saint Elizabeth continued to pull away in the second quarter, taking a 15-point lead with 5:30 to play until the half. Amya Durham tried to swing the momentum back to NDMU, knocking down a 3-pointer. Alexis Jones and Newbold converted layups to cut the deficit down to nine points. Durham hit one more jump shot before the half, but NDMU trailed 32-34 at the break.
NDMU made a run midway through the third quarter, trying to close within striking distance. After a pair of free throws by Newbold, Sariyah Waller swished a midrange jumper to pull NDMU within three points. Newbold then attacked the basket, drawing a foul, and converted a pair of free throws to cut the deficit down to one. Saint Elizabeth responded, going on a 5-2 run to end the quarter, leading 44-40 heading into the final frame. The Eagles took control of the game early in the fourth quarter, going on a 10-1 to build a 13-point lead. The Gators tried to make one last push, but they could not close within 10 points down the stretch, eventually falling 68-55.

Jones led the Gators in scoring, recording a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
