Women's Lacrosse Fall in United East First Round

Allentown, Pa.- The Notre Dame of Maryland University women's lacrosse team had its season come to an end as the Gators fell to Cedar Crest College in the United East First Round by a score of 13-12 on Saturday, Apr. 27.  

The Gators fell behind early, as Cedar Crest scored the first three goals of the game. Jade Stewart put NDMU on the board, striking off a pass from Sarah Generoso. Stewart scored again with two minutes remaining in the opening period, capitalizing a free position shot.  

NDMU got off to a much better start in the second quarter. Emma Alascia scored on the Gators first position of the quarter, leveling the game at three. Four minutes later, Alascia gave the Gators their first lead of the game, scoring on a free position shot. Thirty seconds later, Stewart made a great pass to Generoso allowing her to score her first goal of the game. Later in the quarter, Stewart picked up a ground ball and rocketed in a shot to make the score 6-4. Alascia and Stewart each struck one more time before the end of the half to make the score 8-5 at the break.  

The Falcons recaptured the momentum, scoring the first three goals of the second half to level the score at eight. Alascia momentarily slowed the run, winning a draw control, racing to the other end of the field and scoring to put NDMU back ahead by one. Cedar Crest responded by scoring the final two goals of the quarter to hold a 10-9 lead going into the final frame.  

NDMU trailed by two early in the fourth quarter when Alascia earned a free position shot, converting the opportunity to close back within one. Seventeen seconds later, Stewart found Alascia for her sixth goal of the game to tie the game at 11. Drawing a lot of attention, Alascia made a great pass, finding Emily Funez for a goal that put NDMU ahead 12-11. Cedar Crest scored two straight goals to rally back, and the Falcons held on to earn the 13-12 victory.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Alascia put on her best performance of the season, recording six goals and dishing an assist to finish with seven points. Alascia collected three ground balls and won three draw controls.  

  • Stewart found the back of the net four times and dished two assists.  

  • Generoso finished the game with a goal and an assist. In addition, she won 10 draw controls.  

  • Funez also added a goal in the fourth quarter.
