Gators Fall in Road Battle with Aggies

Doylestown, Pa.- The Notre Dame of Maryland University women's lacrosse team fell in a road nonconference match up with Delaware Valley University by a score of 20-5 on Wednesday, Apr. 3.  

The Gators got off to a slow start, allowing the Aggies to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. NDMU got on the board when Emily Funez found an open Cailyn Motta for a goal. Delaware Valley responded, rattling off six-straight goals to take an 8-1 advantage. Jade Stewart scored the final goal of the first quarter striking after a clear started by Sarah Naje. The Aggies began the second quarter by scoring five consecutive goals, building a 13-2 lead. Emma Alascia halted the run, capitalizing on a free position shot attempt, making the 13-3 at the break.  

Delaware Valley continued to grow their advantage, scoring five third quarter goals to build a 15-point lead. NDMU found some offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter starting when Stewart found Sarah Generoso for her first goal of the game. Stewart added one more goal, scoring on a free position shot with five minutes remaining in the game. NDMU could not pull any closer, falling by a score of 20-5.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Stewart led the Gators offense, scoring two goals and dishing an assist to go along with six draw controls.  

  • Generoso recorded a goal, collected seven ground balls and won six draw controls.  

  • Alascia led the Gators with nine ground balls to go along with a goal. 

  • Cailyn Motta scored NDMU's first goal of the game.  

  • The Aggies were led by Susan Rawding who scored seven goals.

The Gators will return to United East play, travel to face St. Mary's College (MD) on Tuesday Mar. 9. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM.
