Baltimore, M.d.- NDMU Women's Basketball had a busy week playing three games in six days, going 2-1 overall and 2-0 in United East play.
Elena Rodriguez led the Gators averaging 14 points this week.
Notre Dame 66, Wilson 57
Wednesday evening, the Gators took on the Wilson Phoenix for their second meeting of conference play. The Gators defeated the Phoenix just before the Thanksgiving holiday, 71-61 in Chambersburg, P.a. NDMU got off to a good start in the game, leading Wilson College at the end of the half by five points, led by Rodriguez with 12 points on 4-7 shooting from the 3-point line. The Phoenix would outscore the Gators 15-9 to take a 44-43 lead at the end of the third quarter. Wilson would lead until the 2:22 mark when
Madison Simmons hit a three pointer to give NDMU the lead. NDMU would never relinquish the lead and would win 66-57. The Gators were led by Rodriguez and
Amya Durham with 23 and 14 points respectively.
Notre Dame 73, Cairn 57
Saturday afternoon NDMU took on the Cairn Highlanders and defeated them 73-57. This is the second meeting between the Gators and the Highlanders. The Gators won the first match up 73-37. Cairn would take an early 2--0 lead, Rodriguez would hit a three that gave NDMU a 10-7 lead. NDMU would not allow Cairn to get within more than two points. The Gators were led by Rodriguez, Durham, and
Bethani Newbold who had 16, 15, and 13 points respectively.
NDMU moves to 9-11 overall and 7-4 in conference play. Notre Dame heads to St. Mary's of Maryland on Tuesday before returning home on Saturday, February 1st.
