Baltimore, MD - The Notre Dame of Maryland women's soccer team capped off Senior Day in style on Saturday afternoon, shutting out Penn State Brandywine 3–0 at Alumnae Field. The Gators controlled the match from start to finish, firing 18 shots and holding the Lions to just two shots on goal to secure their fourth win of the season. NDM also honored the lone senior on the squad as goalkeeper
Makaylah Reyes earned the start and the win in her final regular season game as a Gator.
After a scoreless opening half,
Alex Busick put the Gators on top just over a minute into the second half, finishing off a pass from
Olivia Messercola in the 47th minute.
Leah Acri doubled the lead in the 68th minute with a composed finish to make it 2–0. Busick struck again in the 81st minute to seal the result, recording her second goal of the day and team-leading fifth of the season.
Busick was dominant throughout, totaling 11 shots and five on target, while Acri added three shots on goal. Messercola contributed both offensively and defensively, earning an assist and helping the midfield control possession.
The senior goalkeeper Reyes recorded two saves to earn the clean sheet, backed by a strong defensive effort from
Addison Barry,
Tessa Wiles,
Sophie Wisniewski and
Ariana Rodriguez. The Gators outshot Penn State Brandywine 18–8 and held a 4–3 advantage in corner kicks.
With the win, Notre Dame closes out the regular season with a 4–9–2 overall record and 3–3–2 in conference play. The Gators moved up to the #7 seed in the United East Conference standings, earning a home game in the first round of the playoffs where they will host Penn State Brandywine for a second consecutive game on Wednesday, October 29 at 3 PM.
