BALTIMORE, MD – Notre Dame of Maryland University capped its regular season on a high note Saturday afternoon, earning a 3–1 victory over Cairn University inside the Marion Burk Knott Sports Complex. The Gators took the match by set scores of 25–16, 18–25, 25–20, and 25–20 to improve to 16–6 overall and 7–3 in United East play.
Senior outside hitter
Kaliyah Brown powered the offense with a match-high 19 kills on .250 hitting, adding 12 digs and an ace for a 20-point performance.
Myla Palmer chipped in 10 kills, while
Gwen Abnett provided a spark at the net with four kills and three block assists.
Setter
Alyson Lackovic orchestrated the Gator offense masterfully, dishing out 33 assists to go along with 22 digs and a .286 hitting percentage when called upon to attack.
Carissa Tanseco was key from the service line with seven aces, while
Izzy Stewart anchored the back row defense with a team-high 16 digs.
Notre Dame came out sharp in the opening set, racing to a 25–16 win behind aggressive serving and timely swings from Brown and Palmer. After Cairn responded with a 25–18 win in the second, the Gators regained control with efficient offense in the third and fourth frames—posting hitting percentages of .171 and .200, respectively—to close out the match in four.
As a team, Notre Dame hit .127 on 44 kills, while holding Cairn to a .050 clip. The Gators also led in digs (75–68) and service aces (8–8, with fewer errors), while controlling the tempo defensively through consistent serve-receive and back-row coverage.
With the win, the Gators finish fourth in the United East standings, and will head into postseason play as the #4 seed in the tournament where they will have a rematch with #5 seed Cairn in the quarterfinals of the United East Conference playoffs.
