New York, NY - The Notre Dame of Maryland women's basketball team controlled the game from start to finish Saturday afternoon, earning a 70–54 road victory over Baruch at the ARC Arena in New York.
The Gators set the tone early, building a 20–17 lead after the first quarter before tightening their defense in the second. Notre Dame held Baruch to just 13 points in the period while scoring 20 of its own, taking a 40–30 advantage into halftime. The momentum continued after the break, as the Gators limited Baruch to seven points in the third quarter and stretched the lead to as many as 20.
Amani Watts powered Notre Dame with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, adding 13 rebounds for a dominant double-double off the bench.
Marecia Barnett followed with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while
Madison Simmons chipped in eight points and three assists. The Gators' depth proved decisive, as they outscored Baruch 36–13 in bench points.
Notre Dame shot an efficient 48.1 percent from the field and forced 23 turnovers, converting them into 28 points. The Gators also controlled the paint, scoring 32 points inside and winning the rebounding battle 37–31.
Baruch was led by Lola Idir and Isabella Kostyal-Larrier, who each scored 13 points, but the Bearcats struggled offensively, shooting just 30 percent from the field.
The win improves Notre Dame of Maryland to 3–5 overall and gives the Gators time to rest before traveling to NCAA DI UMBC on Tuesday, December 30 at 6:30 PM.
