BALTIMORE, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University women's basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024-25 United East Conference Women's Basketball Championship on Wednesday night, defeating Wilson by a score of 65-57.
The Gators will advance to play Penn State Abington on Saturday while Wilson's season comes to an end. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
For NDMU (14-12),
Amani Watts scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while
Amya Durham scored 13. Alison Holman had nine ponts, eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals on the night.
Wilson (10-16) got 14 points from Allie Cullison and 11 points from Jewels Torres.
Leading 35-19 at intermission, the Gators needed to fend off a late Phoenix charge as Wilson rallied from a 15-point deficit to tie
the score 51-all with 4:41 left.
After Wilson took the lead at 53-52 with 3:58 to go on a pair of foul shots by Jewels Torres, the Gators responded by outscoring Wilson 13-4 to end the game, punctuated by two foul shots by
Bethani Newbold.
This will be first meeting between the two schools this season, and the first since 2016.
