Notre Dame Women's Lacrosse Shows Grit in 22-5 Loss to Cedar Crest

BALTIMORE, Md. – Notre Dame (Md.) (0-8) fell to Cedar Crest (4-2) in a 22-5 loss on Saturday at Notre Dame Turf Field Sponsored by the SSNDs.

In the first quarter, Cedar Crest took an early lead with Maddie Graham scoring the first goal at 11:22 and adding another at 10:01. The Gators responded with Sarah Generoso capitalizing on a man-up opportunity with a free position goal at 7:16, followed by another free position goal at 3:16, tying the score at 2-2. However, Cedar Crest regained control as Graham scored twice consecutively in the final minutes, ending the quarter with a 4-2 lead.

The second quarter began with the Gators' Generoso converting a man-up free position goal at 14:37. Cedar Crest responded with a series of goals, starting with Lauren Jackson at 13:12, followed by Kylah Demarest who scored three times in succession, bringing the score up to 7-3 in Cedar Crest's favor. Despite several attempts, including a shot by Ariana Rodriguez that hit the post at 2:23, the Gators were unable to capitalize further, and Cedar Crest extended their lead to 12-3 by the end of the quarter with a late goal from Kadee Schrader at 28 seconds remaining.

The Gators started the third quarter with a goal by Emily Funez at 11:56, narrowing the score to 13-4. Cailyn Motta secured a draw control shortly after but was given a yellow card at 11:43. Cedar Crest responded with a man-down goal by Demarest at 10:59 and continued to widen the lead with goals from Schrader, Graham, and another from Demarest. The Gators faced challenges with two yellow cards and turnovers, while Cedar Crest maintained offensive pressure, concluding the quarter with a goal by Ellie Terranova at 00:44, resulting in a quarter score of 18-4.

In the fourth quarter, Cedar Crest established control early, with Abi Sipel and Graham scoring at 13:21 and 11:53, respectively. The Gators responded when Mackenzie Williams scored a goal with an assist from Yasmine Rhodes at 10:27. Despite the Gators' efforts, Cedar Crest added further goals, including one by Graham at 4:36. The Gators' Leah Hasberry made several key saves, including stopping shots at 6:00, 5:31, 4:43, and 1:49, showcasing strong defensive contributions throughout the quarter.

The Gators have an overall record of 0-8, with a conference record of 0-1. Cedar Crest holds an overall record of 4-2, and a conference record of 1-0.
