York, PA — Notre Dame of Maryland battled hard but fell on the road to Penn State York, 3–1 (25–19, 20–25, 22–25, 17–25), in non-conference volleyball action at the RUHL Center despite totaling over 36 blocks as a team.
The Gators (7–2) came out strong, taking the opening set 25–19 behind efficient hitting and a balanced attack. Senior
Kaliyah Brown led the way with 11 kills and three service aces, while adding 15 digs for a strong all-around performance.
After dropping the second set, Notre Dame stayed close in a tightly contested third, but Penn State York's offense pulled away late. The Lions closed out the match with a decisive fourth set, limiting the Gators to just eight kills.
Notre Dame had multiple contributors across the lineup.
Rosemary O'Brien (12.5 blocks, 5 kills, 17 digs) and
Emily Gordon (6 kills, 8 points) provided steady offense, while
Alyson Lackovic stuffed the stat sheet with 5 kills, 19 digs, and 3 service aces.
Gwen Abnett delivered 4 kills, 8 blocks, and 5 aces in a standout two-way performance at the net.
Defensively,
Izzy Stewart anchored the back row with a match-high 28 digs, keeping the Gators in long rallies, while Lackovic and O'Brien combined for 36 more.
Despite the loss, Notre Dame out-dug Penn State York 96–126 and showed strong resilience against a Lions team now 9–1 on the year.
Notre Dame returns to action next week as they open conference play looking to build on their strong 7–2 start.
