Gators Stifle Highlanders 83-26

Notre Dame of Maryland delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance Wednesday night, rolling past Cairn University 83–26 in United East Conference play at the MBK Athletic Complex.

The Gators (11-7, 7-1 United East) set the tone immediately with relentless defensive pressure, holding Cairn scoreless from the field for long stretches of the opening quarter while building a 15–3 lead after one. That momentum only grew as Notre Dame outscored the visitors 24–5 in the second quarter, forcing turnovers and converting them into transition points to take a commanding 39–8 advantage into halftime.

Notre Dame's depth and balance were on full display, with 11 different players scoring and the bench accounting for 33 points. Raina Burns led the way with 14 points, adding three steals, while Amani Watts posted a strong all-around effort with 13 points and nine rebounds. Marecia Barnett chipped in 11 points, four assists, and six steals, anchoring the Gators' defense and sparking fast-break opportunities.

Any hopes of a Cairn comeback were erased in the third quarter, as Notre Dame exploded for 26 points while holding the Highlanders to just four. The Gators attacked the paint consistently, finishing with a 50–18 advantage in points in the paint and scoring 22 fast-break points. By the end of the third, Notre Dame had stretched the lead to 65–12.

The fourth quarter featured extended minutes for the Gators' reserves, who continued to apply pressure and maintain the tempo. Regina Sabirova knocked down a pair of three-pointers as part of a nine-point night, while Thalia Kayiranga added nine points and four rebounds to cap the scoring.

Cairn (2-16, 1-9 United East) struggled offensively throughout the evening, shooting just 21.6 percent from the floor and finishing 0-for-15 from three-point range. Emily Brittin led the Highlanders with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Notre Dame finished the night forcing 31 turnovers and converting them into 37 points, underscoring a defensive effort that controlled the game from start to finish.

The win keeps the Gators firmly positioned in second place for the United East standings as conference play continues on Saturday, January 31 at 3 PM when the Gators travel to Penn State Abington. Notre Dame has lost all three matches between the two teams as the Gators will look to change that trend in a battle of top four teams in the conference.
