Washington D.C. - Notre Dame of Maryland erased an early deficit and pulled away in the second half to defeat Gallaudet, 60–42, in United East Conference action Wednesday night at the Field House in Washington, D.C.
The Gators (6–6, 3–0 United East) struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the opening quarter, scoring just six points as Gallaudet jumped out to a 17–6 lead. Notre Dame responded with a strong second quarter, tightening up defensively and holding the Bison to eight points while scoring 19 of its own to cut the halftime deficit to 25–24.
Notre Dame seized control in the third quarter behind its defensive pressure and improved execution, outscoring Gallaudet 16–11 to take a five-point lead into the final period. The Gators continued to build momentum in the fourth quarter, limiting the Bison to just six points while closing the game on a decisive run to secure the 18-point victory.
Allison Holman scored a career high 14 points with six rebounds and four steals off the bench while Marecia Barnett added 14 points, four steals, and six rebounds. Amani Watts provided a strong presence inside, finishing with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to anchor Notre Dame on the glass.
Notre Dame forced 35 Gallaudet turnovers and converted them into 28 points, a key factor in the win. The Gators also received a strong contribution from their bench, which accounted for 26 points as Notre Dame improved to 3–0 in United East play.
The Gators will return home and put their pristine conference record on the line when they host Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday, January 13 at 7 PM. The Nittany Lions currently have a 3-12 overall record and are 2-2 in conference play with wins against Keystone and PSU Berks along with losses against Wilson and Penn State Abington. The teams split a pair of games last season with PSU Harrisburg winning in the regular season 65-52 while the Gatots enacted revenge in the playoffs by the score of 63-50.
