This Week in Gators Athletics – October 5-11

BALTIMORE – The calendar flips over to October as the Notre Dame of Maryland athletic teams enter the home stretch of the fall calendar.

Wednesday at 7 p.m. vs. Gwynedd Mercy inside the MBK Sports Complex

 
The Gators, who enter the week with a 6-10 overall record and a 1-2 record, are coming off a week in which they suffered conference losses to Cairn and Lancaster Bible in United East play, as well as to Arcadia in a non-conference matchup.

NDMU's attack has been led by the duo of Bryanna Carter and Kaliyah Brown, who account for 61.8 percent of the team's kills this season. The duo rank seventh and eighth, respectively, in the conference in kills per set.

Oliviya Rodriguez is third in the United East with 6.48 assists per set, while Izzy Stewart ranks in the top ten in both digs (sixth) and aces (eighth).

Penn State Abington enters the week with a 9-5 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference play, with wins over Cedar Crest and defending conference champions Gallaudet.

Libero Fabiola Medina anchors the league's best defense as she leads the conference with 5.40 digs per set. Medina also paces the conference in aces, averaging 0.84 per set.

Zayna Jamaladdin is third in the league with 3.33 kills per set while Danielle Langham ranks in the top ten in hitting percentage (second) and blocks (ninth).

The all-time series is tied 3-3 between the two teams; having last played in 2024, the Nittany Lions left Baltimore with a five-set win.

The Gators have a quick turnaround to host future conference opponents Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday evening.

The Griffins are 2-12 on the season and are winless in two matches against United East opponents this season.

Kate Etter leads the team in kills, while PJ Mendoza paces the defense with 3.70 digs per set.

The Gators are undefeated in ten matchups all-time against Gwynedd Mercy and have won all four matchups inside the MBK Sports Complex.

The Gators only played one match last week but claimed a 3-2 win over Cedar Crest for their first conference win of the season. The Gators enter the week with a 3-6 overall record and a 1-1 record in conference play.

Last week's win over the Falcons saw Ava Tippett score a brace while Leah Acri also found her way onto the scoresheet.

The win and the goals were the first for the Gators against CCC since 2015.

Tippett and Alex Busick each have four goals to their names this season, tied for tenth-most in the conference. Leah Hasberry is tied for the second-most saves in the conference with 70.

Penn State Brandywine enters the week with a 5-6 overall record and a 1-2 record in conference play. Cedar Crest bested the Nittany Lions 2-0 this past weekend.

Addisyn Fluckey leads the team with four goals and three assists, and goalkeeper Jasmin Alvarez is tied with Hasberry for the second-most saves in the United East.

The Gators are 2-0 all-time against Brandywine, with both wins coming last season. The Gators won 3-0 in the regular-season finale before defeating Brandywine 5-3 just four days later in the United East Tournament.

The Gators close their weekend with Penn State Berks, who are 5-5-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.

Berks has scored 29 goals, the second-most in the conference this season. Stephanie Morales leads the league with 12 goals scored this season, and teammate Zoe Macknicki is third with five assists.

This marks the first-ever matchup between the Gators and Penn State Berks.

The Gators only played once last week and scored a week's worth of goals in their 8-0 win over Gallaudet last Tuesday.

Athanasios Ziliaskopolous and Nadim Ismaeel each recorded hat tricks, the second and third hat tricks in program history, with Ismaeel adding in an assist, which helped his teammate score his third goal.

Matteo Rovani and Martin Rasiwala also found the scoresheet for the Gators in the rout as Rasiwala was the only Gator to play all 90 minutes.

Penn State Brandywine is 1-8 on the season and 0-3 in conference play, having been outscored 14-2 in conference play.

Brian Zuniga and Brady Houck have two goals each, while Zuniga also has an assist to his name this season.

The Gators are 1-2 in this all-time series, having won last year's match with a decisive 3-0 victory which saw Tassilo Lehmkuhl and Cristo Sanchez find their way onto the scoresheet.

Penn State Berks is 2-8-2 in 2026 with a 1-1 record in conference play, beating Gallaudet 4-0 and dropping a 3-1 match to Penn.

Terridine Grant leads Berks with four goals this season and Josh Martin is second in the United East with 70 saves.

The Gators won the only-ever matchup between these two teams back in 2023, leaving Reading, Pennsylvania with a 2-0 win.
 
CROSS COUNTRY
Saturday at the Golden Ram Open

 
Cross Country will run its second meet of the season this Saturday as they run in the Golden Ram Open hosted by West Chester.

The Gators finished sixth in their season opener, the Abington Invitational, two weeks ago. Rebecca Coleman paced the Gators with a 6K time of 33:03.06, finishing in 21st overall.
