Basketball Season Openers Highlight This Week in Gators Athletics – November 2-7

BALTIMORE – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball teams open their season this week, competing in exhibitions this evening before facing ranked opposition this weekend.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Monday, November 2nd at Delaware at 7 p.m.
Friday, November 6th at No. 3 Hood at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, November 7th vs. McDaniel or Elizabethtown at time TBD

The Gators men's basketball program kicks off the Kyle McGee era this week as they travel to Division I Delaware in an exhibition before facing their first Division III opposition at the Rotary Club of Frederick Tip-Off Tournament.

NDMU is coming off a 2025-26 season in which they went 16-10 overall and 10-3 in conference play in only the program's third year of existence.

The Gators return first-team all-conference selection Ricardo Ross, who was the second-leading scorer on last year's team with 15.1 points per game, as well as Carlos Green, who led the team by shooting 48.7 percent from three.

The Gators open the season by facing the nation's third-ranked team, Hood.

The Blazers are coming off a season in which they went 26-4 overall, making it to the Sweet Sixteen; the Blazers are one of five NCAA Tournament teams from last season that feature on the Gators' schedule.

Hood is led by First Team Preseason All-American Jevon Yarbrough, who averaged 26 points per game, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. Additionally, the Blazers return their entire starting five from a season ago.

The Blazers have won both games in this all-time series, doing so at this tournament each of the last two years.

The Gators will face either McDaniel or Elizabethtown for their second game in Frederick.

McDaniel is coming off a 16-11 season and will have a familiar face leading them in former NDMU head coach TJ Jordan.

McDaniel returns second-leading scorer Ashenafi Stuart, who scored 12.2 points per game.

The Gators are winless in two-ever matchups against McDaniel.

Elizabethtown, the Gators' other potential opponent, is Coach MeGee's alma mater, and the Blue Jays are coming off a season in which they went 17-9 overall.

ETown returns forward Anthony Lilly, the Blue Jays' fifth-leading scorer from last season.

A matchup between the Gators and the Blue Jays would be the first-ever all-time.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Monday, November 2nd at Loyola at 7 p.m.
Saturday, November 7th at No. 7 Johns Hopkins at 1 p.m.

The Gators women's basketball program is coming off a season where they went 12-12 overall and 8-5 in conference play; they return seven of their eight top scorers from last season, including first-team all-conference performer Amani Watts, who averaged 12.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, and Marecia Bennett, who averaged 9.9 points per game en route to being named third-team all-conference.

The Gators open the season against crosstown rival Johns Hopkins, who are ranked seventh in Division III and are coming off a 27-2 campaign in 2025-26, where they advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.

Hopkins returns top scorer Lauren Knudson, who averaged ten points per game, as well as Layla Henderson (2.0 steals per game) and Jocelyn Goldstein (1.1 blocks per game).

This would be the first-ever matchup between the Gators and the Blue Jays.
