Gators Season Ends at Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, PA - Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators men's basketball saw its postseason run come to an end with an 85–70 loss to Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions on Saturday afternoon at the Capital Union Building. The #4 seeded PSU-Harrisburg team was able to hold off a second half comeback attempt from the #5 seeded Gators in a game that was much closer than the final score might suggest.

The Gators fell behind early as Penn State Harrisburg used strong shooting and transition offense to build a 40–31 halftime lead. The Lions shot 46.4 percent from the field in the opening half and knocked down five three-pointers, creating separation with a pair of extended scoring runs.

Notre Dame of Maryland battled throughout the second half and briefly trimmed the deficit to single digits, but Penn State Harrisburg answered each push with timely baskets. Marlon Lewis scored four straight points for the Gators to make it a 54-50 Harrisburg lead midway through the second half, but the forward duo of Lewis and Jahbreco Dacosta would end up fouling out of the game. The Lions finished the game shooting 47.4 percent from three-point range and recorded 23 assists on 28 made field goals, keeping the Gators from mounting a late comeback.

Dacosta led Notre Dame with 15 points and a team-high 14 rebounds, anchoring the paint on both ends. Chandler Johnson added 14 points off the bench, while Jackson Pugh chipped in 12 points, including a pair of three-pointers. The Gators shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half but were unable to overcome the early deficit. Lewis finished with nine points while Anthony Wright and Ricardo Ross scored seven each.

Penn State Harrisburg was paced by Jordan Spencer, who scored a game-high 24 points, while the Lions' balanced attack and bench production proved decisive down the stretch.

Notre Dame of Maryland closes the season with a 16–11 record in a strange year where a 10-3 conference record saw the Gators finish fifth in the standings. Notre Dame of Maryland will now have to rebuild after saying goodbye to the senior trio of Wright, Johnson, and Dylan Long.
