BEL AIR, MD - Notre Dame of Maryland battled throughout a challenging doubleheader against Marywood on February 28 at Harford Community College, falling 18–9 in game one and 16–1 in game two.
GAME 1
In the opener, the Gators showed early fight after surrendering two runs in the first inning. Notre Dame answered immediately, getting on the board when C. Cichocki scored on an RBI groundout before erupting for three runs in the second inning. A solo home run from
Ben Boyer highlighted the rally, while RBI hits from
Chase Cichocki and
Hunter Beil helped Notre Dame even the score at 4–4.
The game remained tight through four innings before Marywood used a seven-run sixth inning to pull away. Despite the deficit, Notre Dame continued to compete offensively. Boyer finished a strong performance at the plate with three hits, including a home run and double, while Beil added two hits and two RBIs. The Gators mounted a late push with a four-run eighth inning fueled by RBI hits from Beil and
Brendan Altman, but Marywood responded in the ninth to secure the 18–9 victory.
GAME 2
Game two proved more difficult for Notre Dame as Marywood capitalized on defensive miscues to build momentum early. The Pacers scored in five different innings, including a six-run fourth inning that created separation.
Notre Dame's lone run came in the fourth inning when
MJ Lux delivered an RBI single to score
Zane Cook after Cook led off the frame with a double. Lux and
Mark Reineke each recorded two-hit performances, accounting for much of the Gators' offense.
Despite collecting seven hits in the second game, Notre Dame was unable to generate sustained rallies against Marywood's pitching staff, which combined for eight strikeouts while limiting scoring opportunities.
Notre Dame will look to rebound quickly as they turn around to face conference rivals St. Mary's College of Maryland in the conference opener for the Gators. The doubleheader in St. Mary's City, MD will see first pitch at 12 PM.
