YORK, PA - The Notre Dame of Maryland baseball team delivered a dominant all-around performance, shutting out Penn State York, 12-0, behind strong pitching and a strong offensive outing.
The Gators struck early in the top of the first inning.
Zane Cook delivered a line-drive double to right field that brought home
Hunter Beil and
Ben Boyer to give Notre Dame a quick 2-0 lead. Notre Dame added to its advantage in the third inning when Beil launched a two-run home run scoring
Mark Reineke and extending the lead to 4-0.
In the fourth inning, the Gators capitalized on a defensive error allowing
Anthony Venable to come home and extend the lead to 5-0. The very next inning, Venable singled to drive in Cook to push the lead to 6-0.The Gators padded the lead in the seventh inning from
Brennan Deremeik fielder's choice, increasing the margin to 7-0.
Notre Dame broke the game open further in the eighth inning. Cook came through again with a single to left field, scoring both
Chase Cichocki and Reineke to extend the lead to 9-0. The Gators capped the scoring with a three-run ninth inning. Chichoski reached on an error which led to one run coming across the plate. Moments later, Venable showcased aggressive base running by stealing home. Right after, Cichocki scored on a wild pitch to seal the 12-0 victory.
Multiple players led the Gators in offense. Venable provided three hits, two runs, and one RBI. Cook delivered two hits, one run, and four RBI's, while Beil produced two hits, two runs, and two RBI's.
On the mound,
Ryan Parks earned the win with a dominant seven-inning outing, allowing just four hits while striking out 10 batters.
Rhys Eder and Cook combined to finish the shutout, limiting Penn State York to four hits overall.
