OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland softball team fell to York College on Tuesday afternoon, dropping game one in a hard-fought contest, 13–8, before falling 8–0 in five innings in game two.
Game One – Notre Dame of Maryland 8, York College 13
York College took an early 1–0 lead in the first inning following an RBI single from Alexis McDonaugh. The Gators responded quickly, as
Lilyian Hafner delivered a sacrifice fly to even the score at 1–1.
Raegan Perkes then broke things open with a three-run home run, giving Notre Dame a 4–1 advantage.
Notre Dame continued its strong start in the second inning, when
Claire Smith added a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 6–1. York, however, answered with a decisive eight-run inning, highlighted by a three-run home run, to regain control of the game.
The Gators added two more runs in the fourth inning, but York continued to build its lead, scoring three additional runs in the sixth to secure the 13–8 victory.
Perkes led the Gators offensively with three RBIs, while
Julianna Leatherwood recorded two hits, one RBI, and a run scored. Hafner and Smith each contributed two RBIs.
Malorie Gogel pitched all seven innings, allowing 13 hits while recording three strikeouts.
Game Two – Notre Dame of Maryland 0, York College 8 (5 innings)
York College came out strong in game two, scoring four runs in the first inning. They added one run in the third and three more in the fifth to complete the 8–0 win in five innings.
The Gators were limited offensively, recording just two hits, which came from Leatherwood and
Scarlett Miller.
Perkes got the start in the circle, pitching four innings and allowing five runs on four hits. Leatherwood pitched the final inning, surrendering three runs on two hits.
Notre Dame will look to bounce back on Wednesday as it travels to Gallaudet University for a conference doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
