Softball punches playoff ticket with win over Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University softball team clinched a spot in the upcoming United East playoffs on Friday night, defeating Cedar Crest College 12-1 in the back end of a doubleheader.

In game 1, the Gators lost a 3-2 nailbiter in ten innings.

The Gators will finish the regular season on Sunday by making up the back end of a doubleheader with Gallaudet. They will then know their seeding on Sunday.

Back to Friday's affair, Notre Dame took a 2-0 lead after three innings as Claire Smith and Lilyann Hafner had RBI, scoring Anabelle Hafner and Julianna Leatherwood.

Cedar Crest would tie in the seventh, then get the game-winning hit in the tenth.

The Gators had six hits, with Leatherwood, Anabelle Hafner, Smith, Gabriella Allred, Eleanor Flores and Raegan Perkes each hitting safely.

Malorie Gogel took the loss but struck out three and walked five in 9.2 innings of work.

In game two, Notre Dame took a 1-0 lead after two, then scored 11 runs over the last five innings to take the win.

Perkes had three hits and three runs scored, just a home run shy of the cycle. Anabelle Hafner and Lilyian Hafner each had two hits, as did Allred and Scarlett Miller. Anabelle Hafner also had three stolen bases.

Perkes got the win, walking two and fanning two while scattering just eight hits.
