WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University softball team broke open a 2-1 game on Sunday as the Gators scored four in the third and nine in the fourth in a 15-1 win over Gallaudet. The game completed a doubleheader that was postponed due to rain a few weeks ago.
After Sunday's results, the Gators clinched the eighth seed in the upcoming United East playoffs and will host ninth-seeded Cedar Crest on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
The Gators had 14 hits in the win, with
Julianna Leatherwood, Lilyann Hafner,
Claire Smith,
Annabelle Shumski and
Scarlett Miller each having two hits in the win. The Gators had five doubles on the afternoon, with Leatherwood just missing the cycle. Smith and Lilyann Hafner had three RBI, with
Raegan Perkes and Miller each having two.
Malorie Gogel got the win, striking out five and walking two in five innings of work.
