OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Notre Dame of Maryland softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader losing game one 7-5 and game two 8-1.
Game One- Notre Dame of Maryland 5 - Wilson College 7
Eleanor Flores opened up the scoring in the first inning for the Gators with a single, which scored Annabelle Hafner.
The Phoenix answered back with two runs in the second inning to lead 2-1.
In the third inning, the Gators took the lead back from
Raegan Perkes' two RBI single to left center to lead 3-2. The Phoenix managed to score one in the top half of the fourth inning to tie it 3-3.
Flores and A. Hafner both scored again in the fourth inning from an error to lead once again 5-3.
The Phoenix delivered the final blow with a two run double to win the game 7-5.
Perkes led the Gators on offense with two hits and two RBIs. A. Hafner, Flores,
Julianna Leatherwood, and
Malorie Gogel all contributed one hit each.
Gogel received the loss in the circle by pitching all seven innings, allowing 9 hits, and seven runs (3 earned).
Game Two- Notre Dame of Maryland 1 - Wilson College 8
The Phoenix scored four runs in the second inning to take a demanding 4-0 lead.
In the third and fourth, the Gators limited the Phoenix to only one run in each inning, expanding the deficit to 6-0.
Perkes' RBI groundout resulted in the Gators lone run of the game.
The Phoenix added two more runs in the seventh inning to close out the game 8-1.
The Gators were limited offensively with three hits as a team.
Perkes received the loss in the circle, pitching three innings, allowing six hits and five runs. Leatherwood came into relief for the remaining four innings.
The Gators look to bounce back as they play Hunter College next.
