Gators Earn Split Against Hunter College Behind Game Two Dominance

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -  The Gators strong game two performance earned them a split in their doubleheader losing game one 7-5 and winning game two 6-0. 

Game One- Notre Dame of Maryland 5 - Hunter College 7

The Hawks opened up the scoring with four unanswered runs in the first four innings. 

After the slow start from the Gators, Gabriella Allred drove in two runs from a single up the middle to cut the deficit to 4-2. 

Three more runs would come across for the Hawks to extend their lead to 7-2.

The Gators mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning. Three straight singles led to bases loaded with only one out. Claire Smith reached by an error which drove in two runs to cut the lead to 7-4. Another error by the defense allowed another run to score but it was not enough to complete the comeback as the gators fell 7-5. 

Allred led the Gators with two hits and two RBIs. Malorie Gogel and Raegan Perkes also contributed with two hits each. 

Julianna Leatherwood took the loss, pitching three innings, allowing five hits and four runs. Perkes came in relief, pitching the remaining four innings.
 
Game Two- Notre Dame of Maryland 6 - Hunter College 0

The Gators came out strong in the first inning, scoring two runs. Lilyian Hafner highlighted the inning with a triple to score Leatherwood to create a 2-0 advantage. 

In the third inning, Allred added her own RBI single to left field to add to the lead. 

The scoring continued in the sixth inning for the Gators. Anabelle Hafner doubled to bring in Annabelle Shumski and Gogel's sacrifice bunt drove in two additional runs to extend their lead to 6-0. The Gators strong defensive efforts in the seventh closed out the win.

A. Hafner led the Gators offense delivering a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored and one RBI. Leatherwood contributed with two hits and one RBI. 

In the circle, Gogel dominated on the mound with only allowing three hits to secure the win. 

The Gators look to build off of their dominant game two performance when they face conference rivals PSU-Brandywine for a doubleheader Friday afternoon.
