BALTIMORE – The Notre Dame of Maryland women's soccer team opened the 2026 campaign with a 3-1 loss at the hands of Widener this afternoon at the Turf Field Sponsored by the SSNDs.
The Gators opened the scoring in the first half, with freshman
Taylor Edwards pouncing on a loose ball and scoring her first collegiate goal past Widener keeper Araba Abanyie.
The Pride would equalize a few minutes later, scoring on a corner kick.
Widener would score twice in a 90-second span late in the first half to make it 3-1, where the final scoreline stayed.
In between the sticks,
Leah Hasberry made ten saves for the Gators.
A quartet of Gators' outfield players –
Olivia Messercola,
Victoria Russell, Addison Berry, and
Sophie Wisniewski – braved the hot and humid conditions as they played all 90 minutes.
The Gators look to bounce back on Saturday when they face Goucher on the road.
