Men’s Soccer Opens 2026 Campaign with 2-2 Draw

BALTIMORE – The Notre Dame of Maryland men's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 2-2 draw against Goucher on Saturday at the Turf Field Sponsored by the SSNDs.

The physical contest saw the two teams combine for 29 fouls and five yellow cards; the Gophers out-shot the Gators 15-9 but the Gators recorded eight corner kicks to the Gophers' four.

Goucher opened the scoring 30 minutes in, scoring immediately after a free kick, and took the one-goal lead into halftime.

The Gators equalized within the first 90 seconds of the second half as Athanasios Ziliaskopolous found Maxime Baux in the box, as the Frenchman calmly slotted it past the Gophers' keeper.

The Gators earned a penalty less than five minutes later, which Ziliaskopolous drew then promptly converted to give NDMU the lead.

The Gators held the lead for most of the second half, but Goucher's Jason Green-Adams scored his second goal of the match with 22 seconds left in the match to equalize.

Having lost the previous three matchups in this series, the tie is NDMU's best-ever result against the Gophers.

The Gators are back in action on Wednesday as they host Carlow at 5:30 p.m. as a part of Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day.
