Frederick, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland women's volleyball team claimed their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Hood at the Hood Tri-Match.
The Gators then had to immediately turn around and then face Shenandoah, who bested NDMU in straight sets.
Match one saw the Gators' hit .220 against Hood and record 16 aces from the service line; the Gators' defense held Hood to a .093 attack percentage as they out-dug the Blazers 36-32.
Kaliyah Brown recorded her first double-double of the season as she led all players with ten kills and 12 digs. Brown hit .286 for the match and had four aces.
Bryanna Carter had eight kills on a .261 attack percentage, while
Gwen Abnett had five kills in nine swings, not making an error as she hit .556.
Elena Augnst's serves were on point as she recorded nine of NDMU's 16 aces.
Izzy Stewart recorded ten digs in the libero position, and
Oliviya Rodriguez assisted 18 times.
The Gators struggled against the Hornets in match two, only hitting .030 as a team.
Brown led NDMU with ten kills, while
Myla Palmer and Carter added six.
Rodriguez assisted 23 times and Stewart notched 16 digs.
The Gators are 1-2 on the season and return home to face McDaniel next Wednesday at 7 p.m. as a part of Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day.
