Cedar Crest Holds Off Field Hockey, 2-1

BALTIMORE, MD - Cedar Crest held off a late surge from College of Notre Dame en route to a 2-1 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) field hockey contest Saturday afternoon. The Gators are still searching for their first CSAC win of the season and dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in CSAC play. The Falcons earned their first CSAC victory Saturday and now stand at 3-9 and 1-3, respectively.

All three goals in the game were scored early in the first half. Tamera Gruzdis opened the scoring 4:08 into the game off an assist from Ashley Jennings to give Cedar Crest a 1-0 lead.

The Gators evened things up 30 seconds later. After a shot by senior Caitlan Quinn (Warwick, MD/Bohemia Manor) was saved by Cedar Crest goalie Rachel Orlen, Gator freshman Rachel Jones (Westminster, MD/Francis Scott Key) was able to take the rebound and fire it past Orlen for her second goal of the season.

Jessica Macko gave Cedar Crest the lead with an unassisted tally 13:17 into the first half to put the Falcons up for good at 2-1.

The Falcons made a goalie switch with 9:18 remaining in the game, putting in Lindsay Harrison for Orlen. Harrison kept the Gators from scoring, making three saves in the final 9:18 while the defense kept the Gators scoreless after six penalty corners in the second half.

Jessica Maier (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) started for the Gators in the cage and made three saves in 47:04 of play. Freshman Emily Langton (Mays Landing, NJ/Holy Spirit) finished the game for Notre Dame in the cage and made one save.

The Gators return to action Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. with a CSAC game at Cabrini.
