Soccer Rallies to 2-2 Tie With Lancaster Bible

BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore midfielder Ashley Cumberland (Baltimore, MD/Kenwood) scored twice in the second half to eliminate a two goal deficit, as College of Notre Dame earned a 2-2 tie against visiting Lancaster Bible Wednesday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action. The Gators now stand at 2-11-1 overall on the year while the Chargers are now 2-11-2.

Meredith Wrightson recorded two goals on the day for the Chargers, and scored the game's first goal in the 14th minute off an assist from teammate Alicia Poorman to make the score 1-0. The Gators had nine shots against the Chargers in the first period. Sophomore midfielder Melanie Moscoso (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Los Pinos) had two point blank opportunities to score in the first half, however both attempts narrowly sailed over the Lancaster Bible crossbar.

Wrightson broke through with her second score on the day in the 64th minute, beating the Notre Dame defense and booting the ball past Gator keeper Mindy Daugherty (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll).

Cumberland gave the Gators their first tally of the game with an unassisted goal just 2:09 after Wrightson's second goal, in the 66th minute.

Freshman Susan Schruefer (Baltimore/Perry Hall) made a perfect cross box pass to Cumberland's left foot as the ball sailed into the back of the Lancaster Bible goal in the 69th minute to knot the contest at two a piece. Schruefer's assist was her second of the season, while Cumberland takes the team lead in goals (4) with her two scores on the day.

Both teams played all the way through two overtime periods without anymore serious attempts at goal to finish the contest with two goals a piece.

Daugherty finished the game with six saves for the Gators while Emily Lloyd also made six stops in the net for the Chargers.
