LA PLUME, PA - Sophomore Sara Mullin (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) scored her first career goal while sophomore Ashley Cumberland (Baltimore, MD/Kenwood) and senior Lauren Terry (Perry Hall, MD/Catholic) each netted a goal to lead the College of Notre Dame soccer team to its second Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victory of the season, a 3-0 shutout, at Keystone College Saturday afternoon.
Cumberland got Notre Dame on board in the 39th minute with her team leading fifth goal of the season, and third overall in a two game span. The score stayed at 1-0 until the halftime break, despite the Gators out shooting the Giants 12-2 in the opening half.
Mullin broke through with her first career goal in the 65th minute to give the Gators some breathing room, pushing the score to 2-0. Terry added her second goal of the season just five minutes later to make the score 3-0, which is where it would stand until the final horn.
Notre Dame freshman goalie Mindy Daugherty (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) made four saves to earn her first career shut out between the pipes.
The Gators finished the contest with 26 shots to the Giants (0-12 overall/0-5 CSAC) five, and held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
With the win, Notre Dame pushes its overall record to 3-11-1 and its CSAC record to 2-5. Notre Dame, currently in 8th place in the CSAC standings, needs to make up some ground to reach the top six in the conference and earn a spot in the CSAC postseason tournament. The Gators will look to win their second consecutive CSAC game on Tuesday when they travel to Philadelphia Biblical (2-10-1 overall/1-5 CSAC) for a 4 p.m. game.
