Quinn Scores Twice in 3-0 Win Over Bryn Mawr

BALTIMORE, MD - Led by two goals from senior forward Caitlan Quinn (Warwick, MD/Bohemia Manor), College of Notre Dame field hockey earned its first victory of the 2009 season Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over visiting Bryn Mawr. The Gators now stand at 1-2 overall while the Owls dropped to 0-3.

Notre Dame got on board just three and a half minutes into the game when Quinn dribbled down field and beat Bryn Mawr goalie Elizabeth Toft with a shot past her left side. Gator sophomore Sarah Morris (Dover, DE/Polytech) followed with a goal with 3:50 remaining in the first period off a nice feed from freshman Christi Griffith (Dover, DE/Polytech).

The Gators held on to their 2-0 advantage until Quinn once again was able to rocket a shot past Toft's left side for her second goal of the contest with just over five minutes left, giving Notre Dame a 3-0 lead that would stand until the final whistle. Today's game marked the first time that Quinn scored two goals in a game in her career. The last Gator to score twice in the same game was back on October 1 of last season when Sarah Morris also scored twice in a 4-0 win at Bryn Mawr.

Notre Dame out shot Bryn Mawr by a 12-4 margin, but Bryn Mawr had 10 penalty corners to Notre Dame's six.

Freshman goalie Emily Langton (Mays Landing, NJ/Holy Spirit) made her first start in the cage, making two saves for her first career victory and shutout. Toft finished with nine saves in the losing effort.

Notre Dame will begin a three-game road series that will start at non-conference foe Haverford on Thursday, September 17 at 4:30 p.m.
