Goucher Blanks Soccer, 2-0

BALTIMORE, MD - Visiting Goucher (2-4 overall) held Notre Dame (1-5) to just six shots and scored once in each half for a 2-0 non-conference women's soccer victory Saturday afternoon. The shutout marks the fifth consecutive contest the Gators have been shutout.

Sophie DeVincentis got the Gophers on board in the 12th minute on an unassisted tally. The score remained 1-0 through the end of the first half.

Goucher then took off in the second frame, out shooting Notre Dame by an 18-4 margin in the period. The Gophers only got by freshman goalie Mindy Daugherty (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) once in the second frame on a Kristen Gartside goal assisted by Nicole Sanfilippo.

Daugherty finished the game with 15 saves, 11 coming in the second half. Kellen Matthews made three stops for Goucher between the pipes for the shutout win.

Notre Dame will open Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. home game against Gwynedd-Mercy.
