TOWSON, MD - Host Goucher scored three times in each half, earning a 6-0 win over Notre Dame Wednesday in the first ever evening field hockey contest at Belden Field. The Gophers improved to 2-0 on the year while the Gators begin their year with an 0-1 record.
Leading the way for Goucher were Katie Gallagher and Marissa Copan, both of whom recorded two goals a piece in the game. In addition to her two goals, Copan also handed out an assist on Gallagher's first goal of the game later in the first half. Also reaching the score sheet for the Gophers were Allison Metzger and Katie Kramer. Metzger added a goal and assist on the evening while Kramer posted a goal and two assists.
Senior Jessica Maier (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) started the evening in the cage for Notre Dame, making 13 saves in the first half. Freshman Emily Langton (Mays Landing, NJ/Holy Spirit) finished the game in goal for the Gators, making six stops in the second half in her debut.
Gopher goalie Micki Manheimer made one save to earn the shut out victory.
Goucher out shot Notre Dame by a 35-1 margin and had 15 penalty corners while the visitors had none.
The Gators will take on FDU-Florham on Saturday at 10 a.m. as part of the Black Eyed Susan Tournament hosted by Stevenson University. Notre Dame will play its home opener on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Bryn Mawr.
