Allentown, PA - College of Notre Dame scores first conference win of the season with a 3-2 double overtime victory over Cedar Crest College Saturday afternoon.
Junior Ashley Cumberland (Baltimore, MD/Kenwood) scored all three Gator goals for her second hat trick of the season. The forward broke the scoreless tie ten minutes into the second half after receiving a pass from Lauren Varholy (Orchard Beach, MD/Seton Keough).
Cumberland dribbled the ball up the right side of the field, beating goalie with a strike to the far post for her second goal of the afternoon, giving the Gators a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Samantha Burley (Cockeysville, MD/Perry Hall) assisted Cumberland’s second goal. The Falcons netted a goal twenty seconds later, forcing the game into overtime.
Both teams came up empty in the first overtime period, forcing a second period. The Gators persistent attack created scoring chances early in the overtime period. Mierra Pratt (Nottingham, MD/Western) pass from the left sideline again found Cumberland for a game winning goal with a minute and a half remaining in overtime. Melinda Daugherty (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) came up with 16 key saves for the Gators.
