PSU Abington edges soccer 2-0

Baltimore, Md. - October 18, 2011 - Notre Dame of Maryland University fell to visiting Penn State Abington in non-conference soccer action Tuesday afternoon on Alumnae Field. With the loss, the Gators are now 5-8, while PSU Abington is now 12-1.

PSU Abington had a scoring opportunity nineteen minutes into the contest with a cluster in front of the net off one of their six first half corner attempts. Ashley Palmer connected on a cross from the right side at 23:20 to put the visitors up 1-0.

Michelle Phillips (Salisbury/James M. Bennett) had the Gators' best scoring chance in the 32nd minute with a shot that went just over the crossbar.

With just under eight minutes to play in the first half, Alli Terry (Towson/Baltimore Catholic) stifled the Abington transition to send the hosts down by one at the half.

Brittany Middleton gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at 49:37 which would stand as the final score. Heather Lancellotti (Perry Hall) turned away 10 shots on the day, while her Abington counterpart, Gabrielle Benedict, collected 3 saves.

The Gators continue non-conference action when they travel to Chambersburg, Pa. to face Wilson College in a 4:00 contest on Thursday, October 20.
