Field hockey tops Hood, 3-2

Baltimore, Md. - September 26, 2011 - Notre Dame of Maryland University won a hard fought battle over visiting Hood College in non-conference field hockey action, 3-2, on Alumnae Field. The win boosts the Gators' overall record to 2-3, while the Blazers slip to 2-4.

Freshman Ashley Fallon (Baltimore/Dundalk) put the hosts on the board 7:05 into the contest. Senior Sarah Morris (Harrington, Del./Polytech) was credited with the assist. Five minutes later, freshman Katie Johnston (Baltimore/Catholic) converted a penalty corner to put the Gators on top 2-0. Fallon picked up an assist on the play.

Hood's Rachel Gannon found the back of the cage six minutes later, but the goal was called back to a Hood player obstructing goalie Emily Langton. The Blazers opened the second half's scoring with a goal by Michelle Buhrman. Mirah Stone and Nicole Kilmer assisted on Buhrman's goal at 39:35, while Stone evened the score at 2-all off a pass from Megan Cahill at 62:05.

Junior Molly Murray (Aberdeen) used a pass from Johnston to put the game away at 67:52. Langton picked up 4 saves in her second win of the season. Her Blazer counterpart, Ashley Stennett, turned away 3 shots. The Gators led in penalty corners, 9-8, while Hood outshot Notre Dame 12-11.

The Gators host Cedar Crest College on Saturday, October 1 in a 1:00 p.m. Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match up.
