Soccer Claims 1-0 Victory Over Cedar Crest On Senior Day

Box Score Baltimore, Md. --  Notre Dame of Maryland University defeated Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Cedar Crest College 1-0 to culminate their Senior Day festivities.

In the 30th minute, junior Aquilina Faginas (West Lebanon, N.Y./New Lebanon) knocked in her second goal of the season from in front of the Gators' bench, nearly 45 feet from the goal.  Faginas smashed the ball toward the goal, in an attempt to give a teammate a run to the goal.  Instead, the goalie mishandled the ball, allowing it to trickle into the net and give Notre Dame a 1-0 lead.

The goal proved to be all the Gators needed as the squad posted their third shutout victory of the season.  Junior goalkeeper Heather Lancellotti (Perry Hall, Md.) finished with four saves for her fourth victory of the year.

During the contest, Notre Dame outshot the visitors 20-10.

Prior to the game, the Gators honored seniors Melanie Gordon (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Vicki Vasso (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) for their efforts during four years at Notre Dame.

The soccer team will return to action on Thursday as they will host CSAC power Neumann University to conclude the 2013 season.
