Field Hockey Honors Seniors on Senior Day

Box Score Baltimore, Md.  --  Notre Dame of Maryland University honored three seniors as the Gators hosted Keystone College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.

In the game, Notre Dame scored first behind junior Kelsey Jones' (Mountaintop, Pa./Towson University) fourth goal of the season from sophomore Katelynn Olson (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) in the ninth minute of the game to take an early 1-0 lead.  However, the Giants answered by notching two goals later in the half to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.  Out of the break, Kelsey again scored for her fifth season goal, this time off a pass from sophomore Erika Deppenschmidt (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia School for Girls).

The Giants again responded, totalling three more goals to take a 6-2 victory.

During halftime, the squad honored their seniors, Ashley Fallon (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood), Katie Johnston (Baltimore, Md./Catholic), and Tessa Schwartz (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point).

Fallon has appeared in 51 games with 49 starts during her field hockey career.  Having played several different positions, Fallon has notched five goals and three assists for the Gators.  Fallon has served the past two years as the Notre Dame Student Athlete Advisory Committee President and represents the CSAC on the National SAAC.  Last year, Fallon was awarded the Mary Laverty Funke Award for dedication and service to the Athletics Department.

Johnston has been a team leader for two seasons and has started in every game of her career, and has totaled four goals and five assists from her midfield position. Johnston has received the team's Coaches Award and Spirit and Leadership award.  She  was also a member of the lacrosse team for two season.  Johnston is the secretary for the Kappa Delta Pi honor society and is a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English honors society.

Schwartz has overcome injuries to appear in 43 games with 36 starts during her career at Notre Dame.  During her time as a Gator, she has been a mainstay for the defensive backline.  Her freshman season, she was named the team's Most Improved Player and also spent two years as a defender on the lacrosse team, making 29 appearances.  Schwartz is a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Delta Epsilon Sigma.

The team will conclude their season on Tuesday as they travel to CSAC foe Immaculata University.
