Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- Cairn University scored with 28 seconds remaining in the second overtime to defeat Notre Dame of Maryland University in the Gators final home game of the season.
Trailing 1-0 at the half, junior
Savannah Ferrara (Sykesville, Md.) tied the game in the 49th minute by knocking a free kick over the Highlander goalkeepers head from 30 yards out for her second goal of the season.
Freshman
Raeden McCullough (Baltimore, Md./Greater Grace Christian Academy) provided Notre Dame a lead in the 71st minute when she took the ball from the Gators defensive end and dribbled around several Cairn players to find the back of the net for her eighth goal this year.
However, Cairn managed to notch a goal in the 88th minute to send the game to extra time. After a scoreless first OT, the teams continued to battle until the visitors took advantage of transition to score the game-winner and take the 3-2 victory.
For the match, the Gators outshot the Highlanders 24-9, led by freshman
Meghan O'Connor (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) who finished with six shots. Senior
Laura Kaufman (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) posted five with Ferrara adding four.
The Gators will conclude their 2014 season on Thursday night as they travel to Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Cabrini College.
