Box Score Sweet Briar, Va. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University's field hockey team used two first half goals to help claim a 3-2 victory over Sweet Briar College for the team's first victory of the season.
Notre Dame saw three freshman notch their first career goals for the Gators as
Taylor Clark-Hartman (Havre de Grace, Md.),
Kelsey Baumgart (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) and
Cynthia Agouru (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) all posted goals in the victory.
Senior
Ashley Fallon (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) finished with two assists while senior
Katie Johnston (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) added her first season of the year.
Freshman goalie
Arianna Hudson (Baltiore, Md./Western) recorded nine saves on the day, her career high, while facing 18 shots, including 11 in the second half.
Clark-Hartman put the squad ahead early, scoring Notre Dame's first goal of the year in the fourth minute, scoring from the goal line on a pass from Fallon. After the hosts tied the game with 10 minutes remaining, Baumgart gave the Gators a halftime lead, scoring with just 1:42 left in the opening frame off a Johnston pass.
Notre Dame added to their lead in the 43rd minute with Agouru scoring from the center. Fallon posted her second assist of the year on the goal.
With a little over eight minutes remaining, the Vixens provided a scare as they narrowed the game to 3-2, but Notre Dame held on to claim the 3-2 victory. The victory marks the program's first win since the 2011 season, ending a 38-game losing streak.
The Gators will look to carry their succes to tomorrow, as the squad will travel to Ferrum College to conclude their busy weekend in Virginia.
