Box Score Baltimore, Md. – Notre Dame of Maryland University's soccer team honored seniors Savannah Ferrara (Sykesville, Md.) and Lauren Santi (Accokeek, Md./Elizabeth Ann Seton) as the Gators saw an end to their 2015 campaign with a thrilling, double overtime victory over Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Neumann University, 2-1.
The first goal of the game did not come until the 53rd minute as Meghan Conner (Huntingtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) elevated the ball for a score with the assist from junior Brittany Smith (Parkville, Md./Howard Community College). The Knights would answer right back as they notched the tying goal just a minute later. For the remainder of game, Notre Dame and Neumann would battle back and forth, ending regulation with the score tied, 1-1.
In the 97th minute goalkeeper Lilly Gordon (Delta, Pa./Kennard Dale) was faced with a penalty kick attempt by the Knights, but pulled out a game saving stop. An unsuccessful last second shot attempt by Connor would see the game move into the second overtime of the evening.
In a break away play in the second overtime, Connor would again find the back of the net in the 105th minute to seal a Notre Dame victory in their fifth overtime game of the season. Santi would notch her third season assist in the game winning goal while, goalkeeper Gordon finished the game with nine saves.
Notre Dame saw several milestones in their 2015 season. Ending the season with a 9-6-2 record, the Gators opened the season 6-0, recording the best start in program history. They posted seven shutouts on the season, second most in school history. Notre Dame also recorded 15 more goals than last year while allowing 29 fewer. In conference play, Notre Dame had their first ever win over Immaculata University and tied with Marywood University.
