Soccer Posts Fourth Straight Shutout

Box Score Baltimore, Md.  --  Notre Dame of Maryland University's soccer team ran past Sweet Briar College 3-0 as the Gators posted their fourth straight shutout to start the season.

The Vixens kept the game close throughout the first half, sending the game to the break with a score of 0-0.  However, the hosts found their stride in the second half as they notched three goals in fifteen minutes to take the victory.

Sophomore Alla Stepanov (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) finished with two goals in the contest, while senior Savannah Ferrara (Sykesville, Md.) also scored her second of the season.  Freshmen Lindsey Rehak (Baltimore, Md./Redeemer Classical Christian) and Meghan Conner (Huntingtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) each chipped in with an assist.

After a scoreless opening period, Stepanov would knock the ball past a charging goalkeeper to score her second of the season and give Notre Dame the 1-0 lead in the 57th minute.  Two minutes later, she added her third goal this year by taking a pass from Rehak, and after stopping to let a defender run past, lobbed the ball over the goalies head.

In the 72nd minute, Conner passed the ball to Ferrara in the middle of the field which Ferrara would put into the bottom right corner of the goal to give Notre Dame a 3-0 lead and the win.

As a team, the Gators defense would again come up big again, allowing just four shots.  On the season, Notre Dame has now outshot their opponents by a total of 159-11.

With the win, the team improves to 4-0, their best start since the 2002 season when the program opened the year 5-0.  Their four shutouts are also the most since 2011.  Notre Dame will return to action next week as they will host Wesley College on Tuesday, and Trinity Washington University on Thursday.
